Web site design for Comet Skateboards. This was my final for Web Design this past semester in which we had free reign to make a web site about anything we wanted. I chose Comet because I had a project first semester in Graphic Design to re design their logo. I figured this would be a good way to expand the project and show more components of the re design.

Orbic Sans

This past semester I took typeface design because I thought it would be cool to know how to create a font. Orbic Sans is a full functioning typeface with caps and lowercase (I only have lowercase posted here) The letter forms are primarily based off the lower case "a". I also made a type specimen broadside to display the typeface. I used neon green because the face is reminiscent of space and the sci-fi genre.

Ain't Love Grand

Personal project because I like typesetting, well more so lettering. The typeface is Affair, which I think is a nice typeface, but only in moderation. The phrase "Ain't Love Grand" is a title of a song by Atreyu if you were wondering. There is no connection except for that Script font reminds me of that sort of theme.

Tea is for Typography

Packaging for the instructional guide, Tea is for Typography. Emulates a tea bag, and is intended to be ripped open as a tea bag would be. Instructional book comes in a sleeve or tea bag. Amalgam Lettering

This semester I took typeface design because typography is one of my favorite components of design. Our first project was to design lettering for a word of our choice (from a list) I chose "amalgam" just because I like the word and I was interested in drawing the letters in this word.

I went with a serif look since I felt I could give it more of an intricate feel with serifs. To display the lettering we had to apply it to an application where it might be found. I chose to use it as a logo for a band since I felt the definition of the word could be applied to music, as in a mix. I later named the album I applied it to "Union" because it implied what happens after you mix something.

A Taste of Summer

Our final project for package design was to make a display for any designer brand of sunglasses that pertained to summer. Our only restriction was that the display could not exceed 18x18x18"
I chose Ray Bans because I think they are pretty snazzy glasses.

My concept stemmed from thinking of what people do over the summer and where they might wear sunglasses. Jokingly, a few friends and I were talking about hot dogs, and other random summer objects. I soon realized that hot dog buns resembled glasses cases, an the idea was born. I used paper plates to build my base since they are a familiar object at cookouts and displayed the hot dog buns and sunglasses on the sculpture.

Viveria

This was a package design project geared towards sustainability. The idea of the project was to design packaging for a light bulb that could be sold at Green Depot. For this design I decided I would not used any glue, and have the package hold itself together through use of tabs. I probably spent about an hour cutting pieces and fitting them around the bulb before I cam to a solution. I was pretty surprised by that. I later went back and refined the shapes of the pieces to reduce material and make it more aesthetically pleasing. All of the pieces of the packaging can fit on an 8.5x11" sheet of chipboard. The logo, and copy was screen printed on.

Haz Cam

One our assignments for graphic design was to take an ordinary, boring disposable camera and give it a purpose or some value that would make people want to purchase it. I designed the Haz Cam, which can be used in two ways. It can be used jokingly as a camera used to capture people doing stupid stunts that may get them injured, or placed in a glove compartment in a car in case of an emergency.

Paleo

Restaurant identity branding for Paleo, a restaurant that serves food based on the diet of cavemen. This was one of my components. This application would inform the user of Paleo locations, allow them to chat with other people interested in the diet, and list the menu specials.

Sidney Animation

1000 recordings to Hear (Before You Die)

Another project from first semester. This book was a typography III assignment. We were given a list of 1000 recordings and needed to organize them in a cohesive way while including 18 "call outs" that explained selected artists, while still considering hierarchy. I think this project made everyone crazy with the use of Paragraph and nested styles in InDesign. This 20 page book is set in Adobe Garamond and Neutra text.

Harvard Business School

This project happened a while ago, but I didn't have time to photograph it until now. I posted the logo for this project months ago, as that is how this commission began. After the logo design was complete, Harvard asked me if I would design the rest of the collateral for their panel discussion. The rest of the collateral consisted of a 24 page book, postcards (as shown above), two 24 x 36 posters, and an 11 x 17 poster. It was great working with them and really cool to see my design in a real life application.

Subway Books

This is actually a project from first semester Graphic Design. We were given two essays about NYC. One essay pertained to the subway and the other described people's experiences when first moving to the city and adapting followed by the changes that take place.

The books needed to relate to each other and had to appear as a set. The design is primarily illustrative, as well as typographical.

Colavita Rebranding

For the first package design project of the semester we were sent to Whole Foods to find any brand of balsamic vinegar and rebrand them. I chose Colavita as my brand because it was a very plain and dated design that needed a face lift. Some of the components I kept consistent were the bottle and the logo, because that was what defined the brand, and were really the only salvageable things Colavita had going for it.

The layers of the label were meant to reflect the fact that the company was a merger of three families. The "25 star" design was the rating of the vinegar, so it was an important part of information that the consumer needed to know and held a solid ground for visual purposes.

3D project

In my childrens book illustration class we had to create a 3D piece of merchandise that included a character for out final project. I chose to make a book along with a promotional piece for it made of only cut paper. I chose cut paper because I am not so fond of working in 3D and I already had experience making paper models my freshman year thanks to Dan Buckingham's crazy projects! The bird character's name is Sidney. The book is geared towards a younger audience as the concept of the book is to learn about shapes. The lower picture is a vector drawing of Sidney.

Trees on Rooftops

A poster for Trees on Rooftops educating urban areas to become more green to reduce CO2 emissions and storm runoff. The hand made quality of the poster reflects the idea of having a human touch. The two types of hand lettering (script-like and brick-like) tie in the idea of nature and urbanized areas coming together.

mtvU Best Video Woodie

Comet Skateboards

This was a logo redesign project for Comet Skateboards. Comet is all about sustainability and taking environmental responsibility. Their decks are made from a renewable natural fiber. At the end of the deck's life, it can be 100% recycled and used for another deck.

Brooklyn Torch

The front (top) and back (bottom) of the $1 denomination of the Brooklyn torch. The torch is a local currency used in select stores, restaurants, and other public places participating in Brooklyn.

mtvU's Woodie of the Year

Typographic introduction for mtvU's Woodie of the Year award. This serif font was created using 2 x 2 inch post it notes. I chose to use post its because they are used to help people remember things. The Woodie of the Year is awarded to the most memorable band of the year, or made the biggest wave in college music. The studio / classroom setting reflects the audience of the music, college students. The lighting of the piece mimics a stage, bringing it into the classroom. The piece is about 10' x 5'.

Guitar 1.0

Okay, so this is the first guitar I've modified. Basically I repainted it, and changed half of the hardware in it. I chose a simple design because there was not a lot of space to work with because of the pick guard, and I've been digging minimalism as of late. For the hardware upgrade, I replaced the tuning keys, the pickup, and the tone and volume pots and knobs. Yes, there is only one string on this guitar in the picture because I'm not 100% satisfied with the wiring yet. These pictures suck because I do not have a very good set up for photographing stuff.

Right now I am working on another guitar that I am also modding. It probably won't be finished for quite some time because I have yet to buy all of the parts and it is going to be tough to put it together.

Angry Fish

Easton Pribble Poster 1.0

This was the first version I did of this poster. It is the Easton Pribble Visiting Artist Lecture Series poster for fall 2009 and spring 2010. The perk of this poster is that it is flippable. The fall information is legible one way and when you turn it upside down the spring information is legible, so it works for both semesters. I am currently working on the revision of this poster, even though I really liked the art nouveau style of this one. The revised one will also be a "flip" poster, but it will be in a post modern style.

Zippy

Zippy is another logo design I recently did as spec work. It is a back pack company for children promoting being active and healthy.

First off, I chose the name zippy because as an adjective it describes children well because they are lively and active, as they should be. I also thought it was fitting because back packs zip closed. This brand works well because it describes the product and the buyer or user. I stuck with the blue, purple, green and yellow color scheme. How ever this logo is very versatile, and can work in any color.
